Nutrition, Conditioning & Performance Support

Every horse is built differently, works differently, and responds differently to the life they’re living. There is no single formula that works for every horse, and I don’t believe in one‑size‑fits‑all programs. My approach is to understand the horse fully, how they’re fueled, how they move, how they recover, and how their body reflects the demands placed on it.

When you take the time to look at the whole picture, you can make changes that actually matter.

These programs are built around nutrition, conditioning, and performance support because those three pieces shape everything a horse does. I look at daily intake, workload, posture, soreness patterns, living situations, and the small details that often get overlooked. Some horses need strength. Some need comfort. Some need clarity. Some need a complete reset. Some simply just need a plan that makes sense for their age, job, and goals.

My goal is to help you understand what your horse needs and why, and to build a plan that feels clear, doable, and tailored to the horse standing in front of you.

Nutritional consults:

Nutrition is the foundation of everything a horse does, how they move, how they recover, how they feel in their body, and how long they stay sound. I use Complete Equine Performance for my own horses because I believe in it 100%, and because I’ve seen the difference clean, filler free nutrition makes. But I don’t change what isn’t broken, and I don’t force a program that doesn’t fit. My job is to understand the horse in front of me and build a plan that supports them, not sell a product.

A nutrition consult with me is not a quick fix or a one time conversation. It’s a full picture evaluation of your horse’s daily intake, forage quality, hay analysis, workload, living situation, metabolic tendencies, current supplements, and the way their body is responding. I review hay analysis, forage quality, turnout and living situations, training schedules, metabolic tendencies, current supplements, and the owner’s goals. Every horse is different, seniors, breeding stock, young horses, metabolic horses, injured horses, and high level performance horses all require different fueling strategies, and those strategies evolve as the horse does.

Some horses need small adjustments. Others need a complete reset. Owners need to be willing to make changes, even if that means rethinking routines that feel familiar. I’m honest about what needs to shift and why, and I explain it in a way that makes sense so you can make decisions confidently and understand fully.

Once we begin working together, you’re not on your own. Whether you purchased CEP from me at a booth, I worked on your horse at a race, or you live in another state and filled out the questionnaire, I’m here for you. You can reach out with questions, concerns, updates, or changes. Horses evolve, seasons change, workloads shift, and your program can evolve with them.

I’m here for the long haul, not just the first conversation.

If you’re ready to start, you can fill out the DLH Nutrition & Program Questionnaire. It gives me the information I need to understand your horse fully and build a plan that actually works for them.

Conditioning programs:

Conditioning is not about riding a horse into shape. It’s about building a body that can carry itself correctly, stay sound, and perform without pain or compensation. Every horse has a different starting point, a different history, and a different set of strengths and weaknesses. My conditioning programs are designed to meet the horse where they are and build them into where they need to be.

I look at how the horse moves, how they use their body, how they recover after work, and how their posture and musculature reflect their daily habits. Some horses need strength. Some need mobility. Some need confidence. Some need to relearn how to use their body without bracing or guarding. Some simply need a plan that makes sense for their age, job, and workload.

A conditioning program with me is not a generic schedule. It’s a thoughtful progression that blends groundwork, riding, recovery modalities, and nutrition. I consider the owner’s goals, the horse’s physical limitations, and the time and resources available. I understand that bringing a horse back, or bringing a horse forward, takes time, energy, and consistency. My job is to create a plan that is realistic, effective, and supportive of both horse and owner.

These programs evolve as the horse does. As strength builds, the work changes. As mobility improves, the focus shifts. As the horse becomes more confident in their body, the program becomes more refined. It’s a living, breathing process designed to support long term soundness and performance.

recovery & Performance support:

Horses don’t just bounce back on their own. They need time, clarity, and the right kind of support to feel comfortable in their bodies again. My recovery and performance support programs are designed for horses who are coming back from time off, dealing with soreness, struggling with compensation patterns, or simply needing help staying comfortable and confident in their work.

I use Class IV laser therapy, PEMF, EquiVibe, thermography, and hands on evaluation to understand what the horse’s body is telling us. These tools help reveal areas of strain, inflammation, or restriction long before they become bigger issues. From there, I build a plan that supports healing while also addressing the patterns that contributed to the discomfort in the first place.

I work closely with some of the best veterinarians in Central Oregon, and I value the partnership between therapy work and veterinary care. I don’t diagnose, and I stay firmly within Oregon’s legal guidelines, but I can recognize when something needs a veterinary opinion and help guide owners toward the right next step. My role is to support the horse’s comfort, movement, and recovery while collaborating with the professionals who handle the medical side.

Recovery is not a straight line. Some days the horse moves forward, and some days they need to slow down. I help owners understand what to expect, how to support their horse between sessions, and how to recognize the small changes that indicate progress. My goal is not just to get a horse “back to work,” but to help them return with more comfort, more confidence, and a better understanding of their own body.

This is where nutrition, conditioning, and therapy work come together.

A horse cannot recover well if they’re under fueled, overworked, or uncomfortable in their body. A recovery plan with me is a whole horse plan, thoughtful, patient, and designed to support long term soundness and performance.
